I immediately fell in love with the shape of ‘Leaf’. Its three unique sides gave the sculpture three totally different surfaces to play with. And like a leaf, it allowed it to appear like three totally different sculptures depending on the angle. The original moss green ‘Leaf’ was a natural colour palette to explore and I wanted to try and see how else I could use the shape and change the look and feel with colour without changing the texture. As I played with it I imagined more of a fall leaf with blacks, reds, whites and golds to give it a totally different vibe. Most importantly I wanted this piece to be an evolution of the original fallen leaf. In this piece the key line has always been the ethereal backbone which gives it is shape and definition. I wanted to highlight that line by using a heavier black patina with a high gloss bronze highlight, drawing your attention to the unique shape and giving the piece its elegance.
