‘The Story Teller' is the story of a couple who wanted a unique portrait. She is a consumate storyteller who because of her size has a habit of sitting on top of things when she settles into a story whether it be the kitchen counter, the hood of a car or the top of a desk. Her husband, who is no slouch in the storytelling department himself, always watches for your response to her stories with an expectant smile on his face. Because this is a big piece I wanted to have her seated atop an open crate to give the piece more air and make it work in the room without overpowering the room.

‘Thistle Tower' was a wonderful project. Commissioned to do a piece capturing the family jumping and diving off the Muskoka diving tower, this work became a collaborative odyssey into what one could do in bronze. The tower, like the original, was constructed in wood and then cast in bronze. Sandblasting the wood prior to casting brought out even the smallest grain detail in the bronze. Once cast we figured out how to position the "kids" on the diving tower. Given the sheer weight of suspending the kids (85 lbs) over the tower attached only by a foot or a leg became a logistical challenge but also allowed us to tell the story of having all the kids in one place during a magical summer at the cottage.
